Awards the Well Spouse Association
Grant for Spousal Caregivers Support Programs
Freehold, NJ “ (March 27, 2008) “ The Well Spouse Association (WSA) is proud to announce that it has received a $5,000 Quality of Life grant from the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation. The award was one of almost 100 grants totaling almost $800,000, awarded by the Reeve Foundation to nonprofit organizations that help people living with disabilities become more fully integrated members of society.
The WSA is a nonprofit, volunteer based organization that focuses on providing emotional support to husbands, wives and partners caring for spouses with long term and/or chronic illnesses or disabilities. Since the WSA is the only organization that focuses on spouses as caregivers, we thought it was very important to support it, as Dana was such an inspirational caregiver, stated Donna Valente, Director, Quality of Life Grants for the Reeve Foundation.
The WSA is honored and grateful to receive this award from the Reeve Foundation, says the association™s president, Richard Anderson. Dana Reeve exemplified the role of a spousal caregiver. This will help enable us to reach out to other caregivers who need our help and support.
The WSA will use the grant to provide a mailing of its newsletter, Mainstay, for the Association™s members, to print complimentary copies for people requesting information, and to provide outreach to new members through such programs as the WSA website.
The Reeve Foundation™s Quality of Life Grant Program, started by the late Dana Reeve, acknowledges the ever present and demanding needs of people living with paralysis and other disabilities and the importance to enable individuals to maintain a positive and fulfilling quality of life. To date, the Reeve Foundation has awarded 1,454 Quality of Life grants totaling nearly $12 million to organizations nationwide that help improve opportunities, access and day-to-day quality of life for individuals and their families.
